Crabby, Crabby, Crabby.......

I am.

I've got a scorching case of PMS, I keep getting called by various companies to work for them at the last minute, and I can't because I'm working on a project for another client.

Developing recipes.

Which is painful for me.

Because I'm never satisfied with my recipes.

Plus? I need to be disciplined and focused.

And I'm neither of these.

Hmmm....what else can I belly-ache about?

We're supposed to get a couple inches of snow - which isn't a lot - but still. I'm finished with winter.
DONE.

Let's think "happy" now, shall we? Yes.

Let's have something positive here.

Well? LLA, has been using the 'Jerry Seinfeld' red X method to get her 1 mile walk in every day. Go to her blog and check it out.

This is very motivating to me because I've been SUCH a couch potato this winter. So I officially started this last week. On Thursday.

Then I officially officially started again yesterday. Because of that little problem I have being disciplined and focused, remember?

So here's what I'm doing:
  • I'm totally copying LLA and doing a mile a day. That's attainable and sure as heck is more than I have been doing.
  • I'm super-duper out of shape. And while I've been wanting to go to a class at the health club? I'm just too out of shape to keep up. And I tend to like classes because I forget I'm exercising. Unless it's really difficult for me (which it is now). In which case I tend to avoid them.
  • It's still a bit chilly out. It's also very icy. So I'm not all that thrilled to go outside and walk. So a while ago, I got this from Netflix:

It's a 2 mile "walk" you can do in the comfort of your own home. Yesterday I almost skipped it again, but while I was half asleep on the sofa at 6pm, I finally popped up and just DID IT, telling myself I only had to do one mile. Just half.

So I did the whole thing and felt so much better. SO.MUCH.BETTER.

Now I have my first red 'X' on the calendar.

Baby steps, right?

I got a pedometer last fall and I wear it every day. (Compulsive, anyone?) It's amazing what this has done in motivating me to walk more. Even just parking farther away from the store...or pacing the floors while I'm on the phone...or grocery shopping...the steps do add up.

I promised myself that I will exercise three days this week. Only three. I can do this. I'm going to check out that site.

I really like Walk Away the Pounds. It's a great way to get back into shape.
A pedometer is a really good idea too. I think it's worth paying a little more because I got a cheapie one once and it counted every little movement as a step so I was never really sure how much I had actually walked.

Ooh. I need to be doing that. I am not going to be happy when spring arrives and I've not exercised at all.

I have used the Walk Away The Pounds videos. I really like them.

Thanks for the reminder!

And I hope you feel happy soon!!

Walking really does work. Since moving to Seattle I've dropped two or three jeans sizes because we don't have a car, so I walk everywhere. I walk over a mile to work, where I walk an estimated 2+ miles (they did a study on the surgical unit, having nurses wear pedometers). And every trip to the grocery store, every errand is walked.

We're planning on getting a car eventually, but I'm almost scared to go back to not being forced to get my exercise. There are definitely days that I would hop in the car and drive the five blocks of horrible traffic to the grocery store to get some Ben and Jerry's Oatmeal Cookie Chunk. At least now I figure I burn at least half the calories in the process! (Yes, I'm an optimist.)

Michelle I hear you! Oh do I miss the days when I didn't have a car! I used to live in NYC, did no exercise other than my daily walking to work, to the subway, errands, etc. and never gained weight (except for baby!) Now I have to drive everywhere!

Walking works. I lost 20 lbs last summer just by cutting back a bit on the food and walking at least 30 minutes per day. Over the winter I have been really busy and have fallen off the walking bandwagon and the lbs started creeping on...last week I started up again since I need to drop more weight before being in a wedding in April!

Martha good for you to have the Red X!

Oooo...I like the big X's. I'm just OCD enough that it would drive me batty if I missed a day. I think I'm going to copy this too.

I have a friend who lost 40 pounds in less than six months just by walking approx. 12 miles a week and cutting out sugar.

You've got to start somewhere. You can do it; I know you can!

Hey sweetpea - thank you for the linky love! It brightened my day - which was nice b/c I gotta tell you, I'm right there with a big old case of the crabby-crabbys myself...

Might I just add that you're brilliant????? Walking DVDs - who would have thought??? I don't think I knew such a thing existed - but I'm keeping my eyes peeled for one now. Mainly because I had to walk in snow flurries and 29 degree weather - at one-freakin'-thirty in the afternoon! - and it would be so nice to have an alternative!

Happy walking! I know you can do it...

Go go GO! I am right there with you... after my wicked flu experience I got a jumpstart on my diet. I am trying to get a treadmill for my walking. Red x's ... great idea.

Wanna come over? We can be crabby together...for me it is the weather, and the fact I quit diet coke cold turkey last Monday...I need to X out those days on my calendar! maybe I will feel better about it...

You could take it a step further and try the "couch to 5K" approach (www.c25k.com) That is only a half hour three times a week, and it guarantees that you'll be fit once you complete the 9wks!!

Just a thought...

Good for you! It's hard to get motivated to start working out - hell, it's hard to stay motivated. But, a little bit at a time makes all the difference!
