I was a prep, so I didn't do the hair tease thing...Sad to say, but I've basically had the same blonde (from natural to artificial) bob since high school.
Maybe I should tease my hair NOW...I could use a change!
That's a good question...we had to be getting the idea from somewhere? There were lots of hair bands on MTV, but I can't remember what the stars and models were doing. Weird. At one point in the late 80s I had a mullet, a spiral perm, and mall bangs. All on the same head, all at the same time. We won't discuss the make-up.
we always called them :wallabangs: here, Although I had the most rockin :flock a seagulls: hair EVAH! That poor child. what has this mother put him/her through.
The 80s were rockin, man. I do however remember sun in being a staple, along with the aqua net, hottest hot pink lipstick and the sneak a toke. lord, Im getting old... Lisa
Maybe Bunch O' Honey and Beth are right! Maybe it was the "Hair Bands" we have to thank for this trend.
Beth? You CRACKED ME UP!!!! "...all on the same head, all at the same time"
Oh Linda. I'm so sorry. Are you even able to look back on photos of yourself and laugh? Probably not. You should give yourself some mall bangs for the day. You know - just for the experience of it.
Lisa: SUN IN! Oh Yeah! I had some orange hair for a while from that stuff!!! You, my friend, were a wild child!
Ms. Gordostyle? I think we need a picture of that hair on your site :)
I am sure glad that I was busy having babies, raising babies, getting divorced, fun stuff like that in the 80s and had never heard of mall bangs until today, although I do recognize the style. I was not dead, just busy :>)
I'm in shock. I was subjected to getting my bangs teased up into a wall by my teenager sisters, but that's the extent of it. Involuntary nasty hair. Those pictures, are, shocking. I feel like I have witnessed a crime or something.
Hello?? Anyone remember Dynasty? Big, BIG hair and even bigger shoulder pads?? All the "it" girls in my school wore their hair out to there...teased with god only knows WHAT. For us normal people, we never had the time or the products to get that hair...and keep it. Oh, wait. I did once ~ and hubby said I looked like Elvira!!
I don't think that trend really hit until after I graduated which was 1980..I know, I'm old. I did, however ,sport a very fashionable "Dorothy Hamil" cut in school. She was the coolest. I recently saw her on TV and I swear she looks exactly the same...how does she do that? I think I should hate her now..nawww..I still love her.
The Matron was firmly ensconced in her wild day back then, tripping the light fantastic and inhaling. She decidedly did not have mall hair, having sworn off malls (and sometimes, hair) as oh so nouveau bourgeoisie.

Umm,hello? Jon Bon Jovi had the best mall hair ever. Not in the fashion industry, but a star all the same.

As for me... AquaNet was my very BESTEST friend in the world. I think I'd go into a deep depression if I even saw a bottle of that in a store!
Smiles,

Martha, Please tell me this is just a random family that you found on the Internet...or is it really someone you know. That photo is CLASSIC!
Got 2 red Xs this weekend :-)
Amy!
Come ON! You think I would actually know people who looked like this?
Er.....okay....it's Zuddy and his ex-girlfriend and their love child. Ha haaaaaa!!!!
No, that picture has been circulating on the web for some time. I got all pictures from google after searching "80's Hair"

Only the "rocker chicks" at my school had the big hair. I cannot stand hairspray so big hair was never an option. Great question though :0)
Two words.
Alyssa Milano
She played the daughter on "Who's the Boss".
Best mall bangs evah!

Oh please, please tell me those are not photos of you. If they are, I still love you.
glad to hear that those photos are not of you...I still see people walking around like that every once in a while...
